Getting to Aylmer Lake Lodge is part of the adventure. There are no roads to the lodge—your journey ends with a spectacular float plane flight into one of the most remote wilderness areas in Canada. Step 1 – Fly to Yellowknife Book a commercial flight into Yellowknife. Most guests connect through: * Calgary * Edmonton * Vancouver * Ottawa Step 2 – Spend the Night in Yellowknife We strongly recommend arriving in Yellowknife the day before your scheduled departure. This allows plenty of time in case of airline delays and gives you an opportunity to explore Canada’s North. We also recommend spending the night in Yellowknife after your trip before your flight home, as weather can occasionally affect float plane schedules. Step 3 – Float Plane to the Lodge On departure day, meet at the Air Tindi float plane dock approximately 2 hours before departure. From there, you’ll board your chartered float plane for an unforgettable 90-minute flight covering approximately 370 km (230 miles) northeast of Yellowknife. During the flight you’ll watch the boreal forest gradually disappear, giving way to the vast treeless tundra of the barrenlands before landing directly on Aylmer Lake in front of the lodge. It’s a journey that many guests say is one of the highlights of their entire trip. Baggage * Maximum baggage allowance: 50 lbs (23 kg) per guest * Pack in soft-sided duffel bags whenever possible. * Laundry facilities are available at the lodge, so there’s no need to overpack.
